Select Content is a micro extension for Aseprite that provides an option to precisely select cel's content.
Extension adds
- New menu option - Select > Content
- New keyboard shortcut for the Select Content option - Ctrl+Shift+A
- New menu options for the cels context menu - Timeline > Cel (Right-Click) > Select Cel(s) Content:
- Union - select all non-transparent pixels of the selected cels
- Intersect - select only the overlapping, non-transparent pixels of the selected cels
- Inverse - select only pixels that are transparent in all selected cels
- Difference - select all non-transparent pixels of the selected cels that are not in the current selection
- Add to selection - add all non-transparent pixels of the selected cels to the current selection
- Subtract from selection - remove all non-transparent pixels of the selected cels from the current selection
- Intersect selection - leave only part of the selection that overlaps the non-transparent pixels of the selected cels
Note
Aseprite versions older than v1.3-rc2 the cels context menu will only display a single Select Cel(s) Content option instead of a submenu. It is done to not clutter your context menus, as adding a submenu is not possible in older versions.

What is the difference between this extension and CTRL+Click on the layer?
Good question - I honestly wasn’t aware that Aseprite has this feature when I created the extension.
The difference is interaction with the timeline, natively Ctrl+Click will always select only the contents of the active frame on the clicked layer. My extension has a different approach and allows for selecting content of multiple cels, from multiple frames, from multiple layers at the same time - depending on what you have selected on the timeline.
OK great! Thanks!
Another amazing extension. I found that Aseprite kind of had something like this...but it seems to be quite temperamental; to the point of it not really being viable. This is perfect.
Thank you, I hope it will be helpful ✌️
